San Elizario Genealogy and Historical Society is a grassroots organization that was started almost thirty years ago to protect and preserve our local history and encourage interest in family research. The Society currently manages three historical museums. In addition, SEGHS is steward of the Texas State designation as a Cultural Historic District and the National List of Historic Places as a Historic District, including the Los Portales Museum and Visitor Center, the Old El Paso County Jail Museum, and the Eduardo Pedergon Veterans Memorial Museum. We conduct guided tours, offer genealogical research services, and sponsor or support over eight-five cultural events per year. The Society also spearheads three Texas State Historic Cemetery Beautification and Preservation Projects in the area. Through two annual Binational History Conferences presented yearly, the society promotes the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro, a National Historic Trail. Conferences are held in San Elizario and Mexico City, Mexico. We are currently working on digitizing our archives and our genealogical information.
