TIGR, the Texas Institute of Genealogical Research, a bi-annual event slated June 13-18, 2021, expands to four courses outlined below.

According to Kelvin Meyers, TIGR Director and author of the NGS “Research in the States Series” for Texas, programs offered by other research institutes feature some courses that touch on Southern U.S. research tracts, but the unique aspects of Texas research are not addressed. TIGR was launched to offer Texas researchers a weeklong records immersion that addresses distinctly Texas issues. “The difference between this and a national conference is the focus on the records in one of the places your ancestors lived,” Meyers remarked. “You’re not only applying methodology to Texas records, but you are also looking at the distinctive aspects of researching Texas records and applying techniques necessary to maximize your results.”

Launched in 2017, response from attendees was positive, and the initial class was filled quickly, laying the groundwork to expansion in course offerings. In addition to 2019’s “Advanced Southern Research Techniques,” the four courses offered in 2021 expand Texas research to include “Spanish Rule to the Republic” plus two new courses: “African Americans in the South” and “DNA Fundamentals.”
