TxSGS Heritage Certificate Application
Celebrate your Texas roots with a TxSGS Heritage Certificate! Do you have an ancestor who was in Texas prior to statehood? The First Families Certificate is a perfect commemoration of your family’s pioneering spirit. Perhaps your ancestor has already been honored as a Texas First Family ancestor. Search for them in the First Families index: https://www.txsgs.org/programs/heritage-certificates/first-families-index/. First Families lineages in book form are available for purchase: https://www.txsgs.org/programs/heritage-certificates/texas-first-families/
The Gone to Texas certificate celebrates those trailblazers who moved to Texas between 1846 and 1886. Those hardy pioneers who settled in West Texas prior to 1901 can be honored with the West Texas Pioneer certificate. Qualifications include settlement in any of 133 counties listed: https://www.txsgs.org/programs/heritage-certificates/west-texas-pioneer/.
Texas Rangers certificates are available to those who prove descent (collateral or direct) from a Texas Ranger. For those whose ancestors lived in Greer County, that region that was ceded by Texas to Oklahoma, a Greer County certificate is available.
For those missing documentation for a parent-child relationship, TxSGS is now accepting DNA proof arguments in the certificate application. See the TxSGS DNA Project at https://www.txsgs.org/programs/dna-project/ for more information on using DNA in your Heritage Certificate application.
